Swaddling Receiving Blankets
Swaddling seems to be making a come back in recent years. The theory is, since newborn babies are not accustomed to free, open space, they feel more secure when wrapped in a warm blanket that restricts their movement and in turn simulates the environment of the womb.
Many brands have introduced blankets specifically for swaddling such as Summer Infant SwaddleMe, The Miracle Blanket and Boppy. If you're using a regular receiving blanket to swaddle your baby, one way to swaddle is to place the blanket on a flat surface and fold one corner down to make a triangle. Place the baby on the blanket so that his or her head rests above the folded corner. Next, fold the opposite corner up over the baby's legs. Then, fold the right side of the blanket over the baby, tucking it under the left arm. Finally, pull the left side of the blanket around under the baby's right side.
Swaddling blankets have a multitude of uses. Blankets can be used for burping, changing diapers, play places, stroller blankets, breastfeeding privacy and even security and teething.
Unique Rock-n-Roll Receiving Blankets
Receiving blankets are often given to new moms and dads at baby showers. They range from simple, small, lightweight, soft blankets to elaborate double sided, brightly colored, textured blankets with all types of finishes. Keepsake blankets can be embroidered with the child's name. Handmade crocheted blankets or receiving blankets handed down from generation to generation are also popular.
Receiving blankets are typically used with newborn babies to control heat and for swaddling. Receiving blankets allow a mother to wrap her newborn in a blanket when presenting him or her to adoring family and friends. The blanket will act as security and germ protection.
